      Description

For those of us who are half-deaf, a switch to mix stereo audio to mono would be much appreciated.

I was excited to see that my "new" Samsung Note had the ability to set audio output to mono in the Accessibility > Hearing control panel. This is very important to me because I am half-deaf, and without this I miss one of the channels when listening to wired and bluetooth headsets. This setting mixes both channels and delivers them to both earpieces.

Now I am getting fed up with some aspects of TouchWiz, and would like to try a CM Jellybean ROM – but it seems that mono output is not available. At least, when I asked users of a CM ROM at XDA this, they told me there was no such thing on CM.

Please consider adding this to CM, or if I'm wrong, tell me how to activate mono audio.

Thanks Jim. I am half deaf as well and this is a very important Accessibility feature if we can get it from CyanogenMod. It would be great if we could get it from Android/AOSP but why shouldn't CM lead on this if they can do it? It's great that some third party apps offer mono audio support but it's not enough. I'd like to hear Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, and games all in mono since MY left channel doesn't do me any good.

I know it may be asking alot of our devs but we who are half deaf would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your consideration.

I'm not a CM dev, but I'm a small contributor. I'll be working on getting this added in for you guys.

Kyle: Be sure to get in touch with devrel@cyanogenmod.org as there is a public CM Task List that has a bunch of high end features that the CM team wants to implement, and expanded Accessibility options are on that list. Here is the google doc that has the Task list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AqSaUzDXxvrydDNaUEVXRWg3bUpNVU1IM2tVVElGM2c&single=true&gid=0&output=html

Sorry for my lack of work on this. Life has caught up with me and I haven't been able to work on this. Hopefully someone else can pick it up.

As a family man, that's totally understandable but hoping someone picks it up does not sound promising at all. People at the top of the CM food chain need to realize they are missing a crucial accessibility option for those hard of hearing. There is an open issue on Android's issue tracker but it seems like nobody is paying attention there either. We need the recognition first and then CM should be able to find devs that can commit to finding the solution.
